Introducing Fran, DISCs Pastoral Lead and Head of Functional Skills and one of our designated Safeguarding Officers. A secondary school teacher for many years. She joined the college at the start of the academic year and is working with our 10 Interns on their functional skills, and caring and supporting them all pastorally.
In addition to learning new digital skills, those interns without previously acquired Mathematics and English L2 qualifications have made a great start to working towards Functional Skills Qualifications in these subjects. In English, we have enjoyed some fascinating spoken presentations from interns on subjects including photography, gaming and goalball. They have now moved on to producing entertaining and informative blogs on their weekly work here at DISC and have also crafted a written report outlining the pros, cons and recommendations for improvements to our local Arndale Centre. In Mathematics, interns are benefitting from our investment in an online platform , which assesses their current knowledge and devises individual learning plans to guide them towards success at their target level, with regular progress checks along the way. We look forward to their development.
